We got a late start with this New Lifestyle we have committed to for the next year. We were visiting my mom in Lake Tahoe for Christmas and it extended into the New Year. We stuck to our goal of not purchasing anything for a year- but stopped for fast food on the 13 hour drive home. And that was that- bye bye McDonald's- We are actually glad to see you go!
While we were still on vacation, we had our first "oh wait, we can't buy that" moment. And what, you might ask, was the reality check? Nail Clippers. Not just any nail clippers, but Toe Nail Clippers, with some beautiful Lake Tahoe Designs. Oooh La La, who doesn't need those, right? I was on my way to make the purchase when Chris exclaimed, "We can't buy those!" Whew, that was close. A mere day into our journey...
After our "Near Purchase" experience, we thought about how many nail clippers we likely had at home (probably 5) and how thoughtlessly we would have normally been to pick up another. Why?
Because Chris likes the BIG ones and we can never seem to find them when we actually NEED them.
Really? People are starving, homeless, dying of diseases, without clean water...... oooh, are those the BIG nail clippers?
Not this year friends... And THIS is why we are on this Journey. To stop LITERALLY buying into consumerism, making thoughtless purchases, and becoming slaves to our own choices. It's time to take a step back and realize how we live. It's time to be purposeful in how we spend our money and time.
And here we go....
